Location: Cardiff/Chepstow

What you’ll be doing

You’ll manage your own varied caseload of private client matters, including:

  • Drafting wills, trusts, and lasting powers of attorney
  • Handling estate administration and probate
  • Advising on inheritance tax and succession planning
  • Supporting elderly and vulnerable clients with care and sensitivity
  • Building long-term client relationships and contributing to the firm’s continued growth

About you

We’re looking for someone who brings both technical skill and a human touch. You’ll ideally have:

  • Around 3–6 years PQE in private client law
  • Strong knowledge of wills, probate, trusts, and tax planning
  • Excellent communication skills and a client-focused approach
  • The confidence to manage your own files with autonomy
  • A genuine passion for helping people navigate complex life decisions

The opportunity:-

  • Working alongside experienced legal professionals and supporting them with their daily caseload in Cowbridge Vale if Glamorgan
  • Duties include but are not limited to: making appointments, diary management, general administration, typing, managing documents, handle telephone calls, filing, using case management systems, word processing, data entry
  • Liaise with solicitors, estate agents, lenders, clients, colleagues and relevant parties
  • Opening and Closing files
  • You will be taking your own initiative and be organised for daily tasks
  • Effective monitoring and scrutiny of files ensuring timescales are met and that paperwork is processed, filed and kept up-to-date using ALB for all matters.
  • Preparing documents for signature
  • There will be further training given for self-development
  • Working alongside Rhian Howells and the Family department
  • Assisting Rhian in matters at all stages
  • Dealing with credit and debit balances and ledger reviews.
  • Attending Court instructing Counsel
  • Attending conferences with Counsel both in person and remote
  • Preparing hearing bundles, statements ,financial statements and other documents in connection with family matters under the supervision of Rhian Howells or the Family department

What’s needed for me to be considered:-

  • You will be a Legal Secretary/Administrative Assistant with a minimum of 1 years’ recent experience of working in the Legal sector
  • Excellent organisation, time-management and communication skills
  • Experience of using case management systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent at client care
  • Motivated with a positive attitude
  • Able to multitask, prioritise and work calmly, with accuracy under pressure
  • Working alongside the wider team helping with any other office administration tasks required by members of the team.

  • Handling a varied caseload of residential property transactions, including sales, purchases, re-mortgages, and transfers of equity. 
  • Providing expert legal advice and guidance to clients throughout the conveyancing process. 
  • Drafting and reviewing legal documents, such as contracts and leases. 
  • Managing the conveyancing process from initial instruction through to completion. 
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships. 
  • Working effectively as part of a team and contributing to the overall success of the department. 
  • Staying up-to-date with changes in property law and conveyancing procedures. 

About You:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive, or Licensed Conveyancer with 3+ years PQE (experience may be flexible for the right candidate). 
  • Proven experience in handling residential property transactions, including sales, purchases, re-mortgages, and transfers of equity. 
  • Strong knowledge of property law and conveyancing procedures. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client care skills.

Due to increasing levels of instructions, we are looking for a Senior Legal Assistant/Paralegal to work in our Residential Property team based at our Chepstow office.

We have made a conscious decision that all of our work will be non-Panel. Our clients are very important to us and that is why they keep returning to us for the first class personal service we provide – and why our Chepstow office is busier than ever.

As a result of this success, we are looking for an experienced Senior Property Legal Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide direct support to one of our Senior Property Lawyers in a busy Conveyancing department.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:-

  • Preparing quotes, liaising with potential clients and assisting with queries, through to successful instruction.
  • Liaising with clients, taking instructions, and conducting letter and telephone enquiries as necessary.
  • Assisting the Property Lawyers in the management of their caseload by undertaking legal procedures as supervised by the Lawyer.
  • Requesting appropriate searches
  • Assist with file related queries ensuring client service levels and client standards are always adhered to.
  • Ensure clients are dealt with efficiently and politely and that appropriate legal matters are raised with the Lawyers. 
  • Process post and e-mails in accordance with the firm’s time scales and procedures.
  • Pprogress cases on a timely and effective basis in accordance with professional standards, internal procedures, key dates and milestones.
  • Updating the case management system/lenders systems as appropriate to ensure compliance.
  • Making applications to Land Registry.
  • Dealing with the Land Registry, Mortgage Lenders and other relevant parties
  • Preparing files and closing and archiving.
  • Undertaking training as appropriate. This may include (but is not limited to) firm training, regulatory training and developmental training (if appropriate).

 

What are we looking for

  • A Senior Legal Assistant/Paralegal or a Legal Assistant looking for their next career step with 3 years + experience in Residential Property matters
  • Someone who can operate effectively as part of a team with excellent organisation skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure and enjoy being part of a busy team
  • Computer literacy and use of a Case Management system
  • A committed attitude and copes effectively with an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • The ability to communicate clearly and accurately to clients and other parties

What you will get in return 

 

The salary for this position would be £24,000 to £28,000 depending on experience.
